Our favorite reactions to the Conclave and the new Pope

We woke up to news of a new pope being chosen today, and in between official updates by news organizations and journalists following the biggest Catholic event from the Vatican, we’ve also been getting blow by blow commentary from the sharpest and funniest all over X, Instagram, and TikTok.

The world’s eyes are on the Vatican (even those who aren’t Catholic), and all we can say is, the conclave happening during this social media-obsessed, brainrot-prevalent era makes the news (professional and otherwise) even more chaotic.

It’s also ironically apt that the new pope has also been called one who is “extremely online.” Notably, he dished out a theological response to JD Vance on X, saying the US vice president was wrong in their statement, and that “Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”

The new pope is also vocal on several social issues, taking to social media to comment. Inquirer.net writes: “In 14 years since his X account was created, he has posted more than 400 times, opining on a range of hot-button issues: racism, sexual abuse by the clergy, Covid-19, the police murder of George Floyd and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

But on the other side of things, social media denizens have spent the past few days (and hours) posting all about the conclave, the cardinals, and Pope Leo XIV being an unexpected entry—and “winner”. From Pinoys making parallels to the recent elections and beauty pageants to reality show “adaptations” of the conclave announcement, here are some of the Pope posts that made us laugh out loud today. (At the expense of our ligtas points, probably.)
