It has been a little more than a year since Philippine theater lost one of its most prolific and esteemed playwrights, Floy Quintos. He left a final piece, “Grace,” which explores the power of faith and the scrutiny thereof.
The play follows a fictionalized narrative based on the alleged apparitions of Mary, Mediatrix of All Grace in Lipa in 1948. While the Church has declared the “apparitions” as not supernatural, the play explores the details around the controversy.

The play’s first two runs in the past year enjoyed critical success and sold-out shows. This final run, now at PETA Theater Center, comes after clamor for more shows and also serves as Encore Theater’s “end of mourning and the start of the celebration of Quintos’ life and work,” says Encore Theater CEO Stella Cañete-Mendoza.
The June run of “Grace” features seasoned theater actors Cañete-Mendoza, Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Frances Makil-Ignacio, Leo Rialp, Dennis Marasigan, Jojo Cayabyab, Matel Patayon, and Raphne Catorce. Reb Atadero and Marynor Madamesila also join the cast in this run.
The play will be directed by Dexter M. Santos, a long-time collaborator of Quintos. “Grace” also features an esteemed artistic team, including Mitoy Sta. Ana as production designer; John Batalla as lighting designer; Steven Tansiongco as graphic and video designer; Arvy Dimaculangan as music and sound designer; Mikko Angeles as assistant director; Marvin Olales and Davidson Oliveros as dramaturgs; and Meliton Roxas, Jr. as technical director.
“Grace” runs from June 14 to 29 at the PETA Theater Center. Tickets are available at Ticket2Me or through our showbuyers and bulk buyers. For more information, follow Encore Theater on Facebook and Instagram. You may also contact us at 0995-2086334 and [email protected].
