Dolly De Leon joins the live action cast of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ S2

We’ve seen the promising first season of the live action Netflix adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” last year, and we’re stoked that the next two seasons already got the green light. And this just in: Production for the second season has already ended, and shooting will also begin for season 3.

With this news also comes a happy surprise for Pinoy “Avatar” fans: Filipino actress and Golden Globe nominee Dolly De Leon and Olivier-nominated Filipino American actor Jon Jon Briones have been confirmed to be part of the series.

De Leon is set to play Lo and Li, twin mentors of the Fire Nation’s Princess Azula. In the series, though Lo and Li were not firebenders, they served as Azula’s advisers for her firebending training.

This is the first time the “Triangle of Sadness” star will be portraying twins, she says. “I’m extremely excited and honored to be part of an iconic live action version of an animated cult classic. It’s my first time to play twins, which is the best fun in a creative process. It’s a dream come true,” De Leon says.

The actress is also currently part of the on-going second season of Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers.”

Meanwhile, Briones, who will be appearing in the third season, is cast as Piandao, a bladesmith, swordmaster, and calligrapher. In the series, Piandao trained Zuko in wielding dual broadswords; he will also later train Sokka.

Briones was most recently seen as Hermes in the 2024 run of “Hadestown” on Broadway, as well as the reciter, shogun, and emperor in “Pacific Overtures.” (“Final Destination Bloodlines” actor Teo Briones is his son!)

While specific details on the upcoming season have yet to be announced, early reports have pegged the release date to early 2026. Season 2 will likely also cover Gaang’s journey through the Earth Kingdom.

Other cast members appearing in the upcoming second season include Miya Cech as Toph, Chin Han as Long Feng, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, Justin Chien as King Kuei, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Lourdes Faberes as General Sung, Rekha Sharma as Amita, Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, Lily Gao as Ursa, Madison Hu as Fei, and Dichen Lachman as Yangchen.
