Growing up with your favorite actors and actresses is an experience not many get to have. And while the memories with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will remain cherished in the minds of those who watched their films, a new generation of “Harry Potter” fans will finally get to experience the same thing.

The upcoming HBO “Harry Potter” series just cast its new-generation versions of  Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, with screen newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout, respectively.

According to showrunner Francesca Gardiner, and director and executive producer Mark Mylod, “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

Over 30,000 children reportedly auditioned for the role of the beloved trio.

The cast for the “Harry Potter” series includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.

Amid widespread criticism over the casting for Snape, the showrunners have maintained that the upcoming series will be a close and faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s work.

As shared in a press release by Warner Bros., “The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling. Each season will bring Harry Potter to new and existing audiences, streaming exclusively on HBO Max, where it’s available, including in upcoming launch markets Germany, Italy, and the UK. The original classic films will remain available to watch around the world.”

And as the films were released over the course of 10 years, the upcoming series, coming as early as 2026, will also reportedly follow the events of the seven books, spread across a 10-year period.

The HBO “Harry Potter” series is written and executive-produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
